CARBON REDUCTION SCHEME SHOULD BE USED ACROSS EUROPE - HUHNE

Commenting on the launch of the Carbon Trust's carbon reduction Labelling Scheme, which aims to inform consumers about the environmental impact of their purchases, Liberal Democrat Shadow Liberal Democrat Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

"This is a great initiative. It is important that consumers have one system of carbon labelling across retailers, which they can understand.

"The parallel is with weights and measures legislation, which allows consumers to compare prices and quantities.

"This important Carbon Trust initiative should be taken up, along with the research that Tesco has announced, across Europe. This will allow products manufactured for the EU market to all have clear carbon labelling."
