HUHNE DENIES JANET DALEY'S CLAIM

2.00.11pm GMT Mon 19th Mar 2007

Chris Huhne MP said that he was deeply disappointed at the Daily Telegraph's failure over a week to either print a letter from him rebutting "ridiculous" claims by its columnist Janet Daley or to print a correction.

Mr Huhne said: "Janet Daley got her facts wrong when she accused me of trying to stop the Channel 4 broadcast The Great Global Warming Swindle, as both the Daily Express and the Tory backbencher Nigel Evans have recognised when they saw the correspondence.

"Yet the Daily Telegraph has refused to print either a letter from me - they have now had two drafts - or a correction.

"This is getting out of hand and silly, since various blogs on the internet are now claiming on the basis of a diary item in the Independent that was clearly a joke that I used violence against Mr Evans. This is also quite untrue, as Mr Evans kindly apologised as soon as he had seen the correspondence".
