LABOUR'S ROTTEN RECORD ON CLIMATE CHANGE - HUHNE

3.50.35pm GMT Mon 23rd Apr 2007

Commenting on the backing for a new cut CO2 campaign by the Prime Minister and David Miliband, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

"Warm words on climate change cannot hide Labour's rotten record.

"Carbon emissions are up, flood defences have been cut, research into how our wildlife and plantlife react to warming has been axed, car and aviation journeys are rising sharply and public transport is over-crowded and inadequate.

"The average British householder is paying hundreds of pounds a year extra heating their home because of failed government building standards and programmes.

"And now the Government has the cheek to tell us we should take more responsibility ourselves."
