MEASURES OTHER THAN CULLING NEEDED TO TACKLE CATTLE TB - HUHNE

12.00.00am GMT Mon 18th Jun 2007

Commenting on the report of the Independent Scientific Group on Cattle TB, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Food and Rural Affairs Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

"This report makes clear that badger culling of the sort tested in the trials is ineffective and uneconomic.

"Defra must now urgently address other means of tackling cattle TB such as vaccination and improved bio-security to limit the extent to which badgers and cattle come into contact.

"Schemes in other countries where there are significant differences with the Krebs trials must also be looked at."
