CADBURY FINE ONLY WORTH 0.1% OF 2006 PROFITS - HUHNE

4.58.08pm GMT Mon 16th Jul 2007

Commenting on the announcement that Cadbury Schweppes has been fined £1m for the Salmonella outbreak at its Birmingham plant, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

"Although this fine is welcome, it is far too small to give a major multi-national like Cadbury Schweppes an incentive to behave better in future.

"This fine represents just 0.1% of the companies pre-tax profits last year, which is a pinprick on the hide of the elephant."
