Hampshire constabulary is in the police premiership

2.54.00pm GMT Wed 10th Oct 2007

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne congratulated Hampshire Constabulary for appearing in the "police premiership" of the Inspectorate of Constabulary's league table of performers.

Hampshire won fifteen points out of a maximum of 21 points, putting it at sixth equal out of 43 police forces across the country.

Her Majesty' Inspector of Constabulary assessed seven categories: tackling crime, serious crime and public protection, protecting vulnerable people, satisfaction and fairness, implementation of neighbourhood policing, local priorities and resources and efficiency.

"With only five forces performing even better than Hampshire - Cumbria, Northumbria, Lancashire, Leicestershire and Surrey - our police deserve congratulations on making it into the police premiership" said Mr Huhne.
