DNA of innocent people should not be held indefinitely

Commenting on the news that ministers are funding a major inquiry into the operation of the police DNA database, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

"DNA should only be kept if you have a criminal conviction. The Government has no business holding DNA records of innocent citizens indefinitely.

"The Government must curb its tendency to head for the most authoritarian solutions of a police state."
