Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne has celebrated the success of a local primary school in raising more than £78,000 to improve the grounds and play areas.

Mr Huhne visited Kings Copse Primary School where he presented a cheque for £300 raised from the pupils' efforts at recycling mobile phones through the fones4schools scheme.

Mr Huhne is pictured here with Ruth Murray from fones4schools, co-chair of the Parent Teacher Association Tracey Walters and pupils.

The money takes the school well over half way to its ambitious target of £114,000 which will install extra play equipment and sensory equipment for all the pupils, including those with a visual impairment.

When Kings Copse Primary School's new building is open in the summer, it will become the leading primary school in South Hampshire with specialist facilities for visually impaired children as well as local children.

"I am delighted with the success of the fund-raising effort at Kings Copse, which is testimony to the energy and dedication of pupils, parents and staff. They have done a brilliant job, and must be set fair to reach their goal before long" said Mr Huhne.
