Jewish community needs more support to tackle hate crime

5.10.15pm GMT Thu 14th Feb 2008

Commenting on the rise in violent crime against Jewish people revealed today in the latest figures, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

"It is appalling that violent attacks are at an all-time high and overall anti-semitic crime is at its second highest level ever.

"The Jewish community needs more support to bear the burden of extra security measures for schools and other community institutions.

"The police need to give the highest priority to violent crimes that have the capacity to inflame tensions within our society and victimise minorities."
