Huhne asks for clarity on future of Ford plant

5.58.58pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 10th Jul 2008

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne has contacted management of the Ford plant which employs many of his constituents to seek clarity on its future following "disturbing" letters sent out to employees.

Mr Huhne said that it would be a mistake for Ford to cut back a plant with such a track record of excellence, as well as being a bitter blow for the local economy already buffeted by chill winds from the housing market and a slowdown in retail spending.

"I am taking up this issue to get some clarity on behalf of constituents who are worried by the letters they have received. The last thing my constituents and their families need at a time like this is uncertainty about their job prospects" said Mr Huhne.
