4.24.13pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 22nd Jul 2008

Commenting on the University of Portsmouth's survey that shows nearly one in five 14-15 year olds in Southampton has carried a weapon in the last year, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

"This shocking finding emphasises why it's crucial that the police should be visibly patrolling our streets so that young people don't feel that they have to carry knives in self-defence."
